Trevor Nicoll, Head of the Greater Cambridge Shared Waste Service, said: “While enjoying the long weekend, please make sure you recycle as much as possible, whether at home or away. Picnic items such as foil trays from quiches, soft drink cans and bottles, plastic strawberry punnets or foil from sandwiches can all be brought home and recycled in your blue bin. If you’re having a BBQ remember to recycle plastic or foil trays and cardboard sleeves from burgers and sausages. It really helps if containers are empty and rinsed out. You can even recycle any food you accidentally burn on the BBQ in your green bin, along with any grass clippings and weeds from the garden.”

There is also a wide range of items that can be recycled at Cambridgeshire’s Household Recycling Centres.
