What are your priorities in South Cambridgeshire?
Leading councillors are calling on residents and businesses to let them know what they want South Cambridgeshire District Council to focus on over the next five years to keep the area as one of the best places to live and work in the country.
The Council’s new administration has published the areas they believe are the priorities for their communities today (Monday 19 November), but now want to hear local people’s views so they can be used to draft a full business plan for 2019/20.
The four priority areas the Council has put forward are:
- Economic Development - we will support businesses of all sizes, including rural enterprise, tourism and farming, to help create new jobs and opportunities near to where people live.
- Housing that is affordable for everyone to live in – our focus will be on building vibrant and healthy communities with a range of homes people can genuinely afford to live in. Our communities will have the right facilities and services and be places where people love to live, not just groups of houses.
- Climate and Environment - we will put the environment at the centre of everything we do to create a cleaner, greener future for our communities.
- A 21st Century Council - we will provide our customers with the high quality services that we would expect ourselves, always strive to reduce costs, build on what we are good at to generate our own income and make decisions in a transparent, open and inclusive way.
The focus of work under each area is also included in the draft plan. A public consultation and online survey has been launched today, which will run until Monday 7 January, to help people have their say.

Cllr Bridget Smith, Leader of South Cambridgeshire District Council, said: “We have been listening to the things our communities have been telling us are important to them and used that information to pull together this early draft business plan for next year. However, now is the best time for us to run a consultation to really help us shape the final outcome. We are here to serve our communities and what our residents and businesses tell us is really important.
“There is no doubt that we continue to have significant budget pressures as the money we receive to provide services is cut and we must make sure our resources are targeted in the right way."
